Social networking websites and apps allow users to share ideas, photographs, events, videos, and other common interests within their chosen circle of online "friends". As a publisher your job is to educate the public about your brand as you promote it.
A well planned Social Media strategy allows you to increase reach, create user engagement, and facilitate the business to consumer relationship. The goal of using social media should not be to sell products on Facebook or YouTube but to create long lasting and trusting relationships between the business and consumer. Social sales pitches or advertising should be less than 20% of your total weekly posts and the balance should be spent on creating trust and growth in your brand or business. We suggest limiting yourself to a maximum of 4 social networks for your business or brand.
Facebook is the largest and most popular social media site on the planet. The latest statistics show Facebook to have over 1.49 billion active monthly users. Facebook should be considered as the friendly "doorman" to your business. You do need a Facebook business page, strategy, and monthly budget.
Twitter is one of the most misunderstood and under utilized social media outlets in the Northern Kentucky region. Twitter is best at finding out what is going on right now. Tweets are current and stream in nearly real time. Depending on who you follow determines what is in your Twitter feed. Hashtags were popularized by Twitter and allow you to create topic specific conversations or to find and engage in topics of your choice.
YouTube is the original social video platform. Acquired by Google in 2006, YouTube has grown to be a household name in and of itself. If your company or brand can benefit from producing videos related to your business YouTube is the site for you.
Instagram was acquired by Facebook in 2012 and has become one of the largest photo and video sharing sites available today. Instagram is a mobile device(phone) social media app, only. It takes current photos from your mobile device and allows the user to apply digital filters to the photos for great looking effects.
The value in social networking is as simple as it can be complex. As social media standards mature we find ourselves measuring user engagement rather than the quantity of "likes".
Producing consistent and quality content for your social media following should be a core objective for your social media strategy.
